On-Ramps to Careers

This quarter, ValidaTek partnered with On-Ramps to Careers for various events including resume review and interview workshops, plus their Code-A-Thon and Design-A-Thon held in March.

In February, ValidaTek assisted in hosting an interview prep session to help intern candidates excel when meeting with prospective employers. This was a great opportunity to participate in and potentially interview the next intern(s) for ValidaTek who could someday join our team! Our volunteers also participated in a resume review workshop for DC Public Schools high school seniors who are competing for summer jobs in the federal government and Fortune 500 companies.

In March, ValidaTek also partnered with On-Ramps to Careers during their Code-A-Thon and Design-A-Thon events where ValidaTek volunteers used their experience with software development as informal mentors to teams of 2 to 5 high school computer science students in workshops about the foundational skills of creating a scheduling application. This year's events focused on creating a COVID mapping and scheduling app to find a test or vaccine site and schedule an appointment. The app leveraged a mapping API using curated data and the appointment and scheduling components were built using web-side only technologies. The event was a 4-hour sprint held virtually in small-team breakout rooms and was an

absolute success!
